This project has been reviewed and permitted by the District. It is called “F.I.N.D. Spoil Island Mayport-Atlantic Interchange and Wonderwood connector Mitigation.” The purpose of the project is mitigation for the Beach Blvd. Widening and the Wonderwood connector. Spoil from the island is being removed and rebuilt and 7.67 acres of salt marsh restored.  Earth moving equipment has been barged in to create a smaller and taller island that will be stabilized with synthetic material.  Then the marsh area will be re-planted with native grasses.
